Bootsie

As an outside cat who received little care at home, 3-year-old Bootsie had gone through a long period of hardships. Kind neighbors gave him as much support as possible with food, an outside shelter, and occasional medical care. Sadly, they couldn’t take him into their own house, but when it became clear that Bootsie was not wanted at home and he was at risk in severe winter temperatures, he was bundled up and brought to the Shelter.
At first, Bootsie was very tired, recovering his health in the cozy warmth of his own room, with good food and loving attention. Surprisingly, despite his history of neglect, Bootsie was the sweetest lap cat, warm and snuggly. He would turn on his side and enjoy long, gentle belly-rubs, purring blissfully. He made friends easily with humans and cats alike and had so much love to give. His battered face showed the hard times he had endured but his heart was ready and willing to trust.

After a 3-week spa holiday at the Shelter, Bootsie felt greatly rejuvenated. Many Shelter volunteers would have liked to take him home, but he was quickly adopted by Krissi and Stephen from Lunenburg, VT. Bootsie would join another super-friendly kitty, a fluffy orange boy named Biscuit, who was ready to greet him with glee.

“First night at home was successful! Bootsie settled into his safe room nicely and seems very relaxed. Our daughter Reagan is in love with him and keeps telling us how amazing he is. He’s definitely getting a lot of love here! Biscuit has been purring and sniffing at the door. He’s very curious about the new addition to our house.
I’ll keep you updated! Thanks again for letting us take him into our home! Happy Easter!”

“Bootsie (now Vinny) is doing amazing! He has made himself completely at home and is so relaxed and happy. He and Biscuit are getting along so well… You would think they had been living together for years. He is spending his days sleeping on whoever’s lap is available and following me around the house. He’ll even meow at me and walk to the couch so I will sit down with him lol. He is very much loved, and we couldn’t have asked for a better addition to our family!”

Rascal

Handsome Rascal was an abandoned tom cat, who was wandering the streets of a neighborhood in the beginning of winter in search of food, warm sleeping places and love. As the nights grew colder and longer, one house and its inhabitants looked particularly friendly and warm, so Rascal decided to camp out on the porch, hoping he may be allowed to move in. Landlady Linda had a soft spot for lost, lonely and charming kitties. She welcomed Rascal inside and arranged with Kingdom Animal Shelter to care for him as a foster cat.

Rascal soon got all the medical care he needed. He was neutered, his long black fur was nicely combed out and he became close friends with Toetom, one of Linda’s family cats. Rascal settled in contentedly with no intention to ever leave again. Months went by and nobody came forward to claim him.

Linda reported: “Rascal and Toetom are always in and out of boxes, sparring on hind legs, and running and hiding behind furniture to try and jump out and scare one another. Rascal and Stevie are starting to get along too. But the bond with Toetom was instantaneous, and since Toetom was also a stray that came home with our older cat, I can’t help but feel that it was a reunion of old friends.”

By spring time, adopting Rascal was only a matter of form. He had adopted Linda and her cat family when he first set paw in the door. Linda only had to catch up by signing the papers, which she happily did on April 27th.

Otto and Catarina

We wanted to share another lovely update from the adopters of these two shy, bonded youngsters who went home in January.

“I thought that I would give an update on Otto and Catarina. They are settled in now, getting into trouble, and getting friendlier with us.

We have succeeded in turning them into lap cats, at least during the few minutes that they sit still during the day. They love cuddling and playing in front of the fireplace.

We've learned that we have to put down toilet seats, unless we want to sit on a wet seat.

Catarina also likes ice cubes. Even if you're not done with them yet.

While Catarina scaled to the top our new cat tree immediately (Matt: "Let's get the biggest tree they have!"), it took a couple months for Otto to get comfortable with high places.
The next step is getting them more comfortable with strangers. And maybe one day they'll be allowed in the basement. (For now, basement is still off limits, because that's where my second batch of seedlings are. Catarina immediately ripped up my first batch the day after the seeds popped up.)
Thanks again for letting us adopt them! And I love the thought and effort that goes into your monthly newsletters, they are adorable to read through!”
