Ivy
An undernourished, little tuxedo cat named Ivy made her way into the Shelter in October. Originally, she had come from a hoarding situation and was taken in by a young family. She was friendly towards cats and people, but she behaved strangely around a baby in her new home, therefore she couldn’t stay.
Ivy turned out to be pregnant and gave birth at the Shelter to a single black kitten. Sadly, something wasn’t quite right with the little one and he died after a couple of days. In his short life he was very much loved by the Shelter family and his doting mom. Ivy grieved, wouldn’t eat, but soon returned to being her friendly and playful self, climbing on people’s shoulders, loving to be cuddled.

Ivy was wonderfully affectionate. There was nothing ‘aloof’ about this petite young girl. She was very human oriented, and often ignored her food when her caretakers appeared, just wanting to be close with people, cuddling and playing. We guessed that her lack of appetite was caused by feeling lonely and hoped that a permanent home would change that.

Andy and Jim from West Glover, VT, were thoroughly charmed by Ivy when they visited her. They adopted her on December 20th. Andy sent updates in the following 2 weeks:
December 21st (Ivy’s first day at home)
Ivy was wide-eyed at the change, but she’s begun to explore and I’m sure will fit in perfectly. She thought bedtime was the best thing ever, all purrs and head rubs and kneading.
It was nice to meet you, thanks for all your help!

Ivy is totally settled in, eating well, enjoys the run of the whole house, and is as playful and affectionate a cat as you could wish for. Our guests are entranced when she climbs on their shoulders. We love her. Happy New Year!

January 4th
Ivy is lively, very affectionate, purrs at the drop of a hat, and has made the whole house hers, including dispersing her toys everywhere. I should also add she wolfs down everything I put in front of her so long as it isn’t fish! We love her to pieces!!
My best,
Andy

Misty
2-year-old Misty came to the Shelter in November. This sweet petite Siamese girl was quiet for such a young cat. She didn’t know how to play and didn’t eat well. As a kitten, Misty had come from the South; she was given as a gift to a person who didn’t have time for her and finally surrendered Misty to KAS. It seemed like Misty’s world had been very small and she didn’t know what to do in the bigger environment of a Shelter with so much space and many people relating to her. But one thing was clear: As shy as she was, Misty wanted love, and lots of it!
Pat from West Danville visited the Shelter shortly after Misty’s arrival. Pat was instantly drawn to this pretty little cat who seemed timid but longing to connect.

Pat adopted her and took her home on December 20th
Misty, now called Sweetie, settled right in, as soon as they got home. Sweetie moved into the guest room, so that Pat’s senior cat “Missy” would get used to a new kitty in the house. Sweetie felt comfortable, was laying on her side, making biscuits, was affectionate with Pat and enjoyed her food. Pat was splitting her time between Sweetie and Missy, sleeping half the night with one cat, then with the other.

The following week Pat reported: “Sweetie is coming along nicely. I am doing daily room exchanges of the cats. She has explored the whole house and has a great appetite. Sweetie used to look down a lot but now she looks directly into my eyes."

In the beginning of January Pat told us that Sweetie and Missy were getting more comfortable with each other and could now be together in a room, while supervised. They had all been lying on a bed together. Sweetie sometimes hissed at Missy out of insecurity, but there was no sign of aggression between them. Sweetie was still a little shy and preferred not to be picked up. Sweetie loved a wonderful brush of Pat’s. She continued to eat really well. Pat said that Sweetie was a beautiful girl, that she loved her and was very happy having her.

Angelo and Angelica
In fall, three beautiful feral kittens were trapped in town by Shelter volunteer Nancy Pellegrino. She fostered and socialized the trio expertly at home in her feral-kindergarten until the little tigers were ready to move to the Shelter in the beginning of December.
Angelo and Angelina were close buddies and socialites, while their shy sister Catarina attached herself to her kindergarten friend Otto.

Angelo was a love bug, and such a handsome mackerel tabby with fluffy hair. He was playful, loved attention and purred constantly. Angelica was a sweet and cheerful kitty who loved to be petted and purred up a storm.

They caught the eyes of a family of five from Waterford. Doug, his wife and three children came to the Shelter to meet the kittens and were smitten. They had two gentle dogs at home and were well prepared to introduce the pets slowly, so that nobody would get scared.
Angelo and Angelica moved to their new home on December 29th.

On January 5th their new family reported:
The kittens are settling in very well. We have quickly learned that they are night owls. Angelo prefers to play with the mouse toys and Angelica likes the ball toys. They love their treats! Angelo and Angelica enjoy spending their time looking out the window on their tower. They find solitude under our bed.
Thanks for checking in!
