Parker

Parker is a lovely 3-year-old Balinese cat with shiny blue eyes. She was surrendered to Kingdom Animal Shelter because she was bullied by other cats in her former home. Parker was incredibly sweet and affectionate. After a short time at the Shelter, she was adopted by a family in Littleton who had a small, very well-behaved dog.

Adoption counselor Nancy reported that Parker was quickly settling into her new home, ate well, enjoyed lap time, lounging on a bed, and being brushed. After a few days, Parker was ready to leave her safe room, explored the house, was out and about all day long and only returned to the room to eat and sleep. Parker was affectionate and would jump on her person’s lap to check out the small dog on the couch by their side. The two of them were eyeing each other and slowly getting to know one another. At night, Parker slept on her person’s chest. Her happy adopter admired how wonderful and amazing Parker was, and how quickly she had adapted to her new home. Parker’s new name is Coco.

Lizzy

Lizzy is a 1-year-old, gentle little cat who had a rough start in life, being fearful of a person in her former home. At the Shelter, Lizzy kept hiding in her cozy cave, often buried under blankets. But when everything was quiet, she would shyly come out to snuggle with her most trusted caretakers. She was such a little sweetheart, she just needed the right home to become the loving, trusting companion pet she wanted to be. Lizzy was FIV positive and needed a quiet, nurturing home environment where her affectionate nature was encouraged through kindness and patience.

Lizzy found her perfect home on January 31st with Karen in Barton, VT. When Karen first visited the Shelter, Lizzy responded immediately to Karen’s warmth and friendliness, came out of hiding and wanted to be petted. Karen set up a wonderful safe area at her home in Barton so that Lizzy would feel secure and comfortable in her new environment -- and Lizzy settled in very well. She soon came out of hiding, explored a little, tried different cat beds and did some kneading, which is a sure sign of a happy kitty. She wasn’t eating much, yet, but was purring away. Karen told adoption counselor Nancy that Lizzy was the sweetest little thing, so cute. “I love her so much, thank you for this beautiful gift!”

By day five, Lizzy was in and out of her safe area and exploring her new home more and more. She was playing wildly, eating well and being affectionate. Lizzy played on her cat tower, enjoyed her wand toys, and at night, she was all over the house. In the morning there were toys and small area rugs scattered everywhere.

Nancy told Karen that Lizzy was a lucky kitty and Karen replied, "we are both lucky!"

On February 18th Karen wrote: “I wanted to thank you and KAS again for Lizzy. She is so funny. She has reconnected with her "inner kitten" and zooming around here like wildfire. I'm not quick enough to get a video. Oh, she makes us laugh!! You would never believe it was the same kitty. I can't imagine a better way to start the day.”

Maple

Last winter, a small, orange, female cat hunkered down in an open garage until a good Samaritan took her home. Her long fur was heavily matted which made her legs get stuck to her body. She had a frightful time and was very fearful. Her rescuer got her fur shaved off and brought her to the Shelter. We named her Maple.

Maple appeared to be 2 years old, quite shy and very pregnant. She soon gave birth to 3 healthy kittens in the nursery room of the Shelter. Maple was a fierce little mom. She didn’t trust her human caretakers a bit around her babies. She hissed and lunged at people at her door like a miniature lioness. A small group of fearless volunteers took care of the cat family until the kittens were old enough to go to a foster home.

Once Maple was relieved from her parental responsibilities, she relaxed visibly and started to warm up towards her care team.

To everybody’s amazement, Maple turned out to be a bright and companionable kitty. She loved watching the volunteers at their chores and to sit close by. Eventually she let her team pet her and enjoyed playing with them. Finally, she even greeted strangers with a big cat smile on her sweet face, asked to be petted, and even liked her belly rubbed!
But she didn't warm up to other cats and seemed to be afraid of them. We felt that in the right home, as an only cat, Maple would be a gentle, cheerful, loving presence on soft paws. She would remind her humans every day that kindness was the key to the best things in life.

Maple was adopted on January 24th by a young couple from Williston, Madison and Nate.

Madison wrote in the evening: “Miss Maple is doing well so far. She has been mostly hiding, but has eaten her food, used the litter box and explored a little. She loves the windows!”

On February 4th Madison sent an update: “Maple is doing great! She runs this household. I have so many photos to share with you. Her favorite activities so far:
Napping in one of her favorite spots: her shark bed, the chair we call her throne and her tower
Playing with her fuzz balls

Receiving all the attention we give her, including brushing
She eats very well and consistently; she’s got the schedule down. She has had no issues with the litter box. She remains friendly, curious, playful and loving. And, as predicted, she loves sitting in our laps or laying on us. Her first vet check-in to get her set up in our area is in a few weeks. We love her endlessly!”

Ash & Bear

In September, a pregnant stray named Mama was trapped in a neighborhood in town and was placed into foster care. Within a few days she gave birth to four lovely tiger kittens.

The brothers Ash and Bear were very bonded. Bear was a quiet little chap. He would gladly sit on a lap or come as close as possible until one would start to pet him. But he would meow to get cuddles if one didn't pay attention soon enough. Ash was outspoken and would tell you right away when he wanted pets, cuddles and food. He was a big mama boy. These sweet brothers loved "tummy time" when their foster mom tipped them over and rubbed their tummies and toes.

Ash and Bear were adopted on January 14th by a young family in Hanover, NH -- Kevin and Jennifer and their two young daughters.

On February 16th Kevin wrote: “Bear (now Biscuit) and Ash (now Pickles) are doing fantastic. They had zero issues settling in and love chasing each other around the house when they are not snuggled on their cat tree or in a sun spot. They have been doing great with our girls and have instantly bonded with them!”

Pumpkin

A friendly orange kitty
was hanging around a house in mid-December. She was very cold and very hungry. The resident couple asked for support to trap the cat and took her in as a foster cat for Kingdom Animal Shelter.

Little Pumpkin had picked the right house and people to go for help. They were wonderful foster parents, very caring and loving. They got many things to make their foster kitty happy. Their house was beautiful and pet friendly. Pumpkin did well with the resident dog and was getting very spoiled. Three weeks later, everybody had decided that Pumpkin was meant to stay. She was adopted by her chosen family.

Pearl & Boba

In August a young pregnant kitty named Ashley was abandoned by her owner in an apartment in St. Johnsbury. She went into foster care with volunteer Tori where she gave birth to five kittens on September 1st.

The brothers Pearl and Boba were two of the little ones. They were spitting images of their mama, all-white with grey markings on their foreheads, and Boba had extra lucky toes. Both were total mama boys and very bonded with each other.

Pearl was super affectionate and loved to be petted, held, cuddled and to be a lap cat. He was a bit timid and skittish with loud noises would hide but come out when everything seemed safe. He was always the first to curl up on his foster mom’s lap.

Boba was friendly, outgoing and brave. He was adventurous and talkative. He loved being in the middle of the action but would also stop to cuddle.

Pearl and Boba were adopted on January 10th by Phyllis and John in Danville, VT.

On February 21st Phyllis wrote: "Thank you for checking on the kitties. They are doing incredibly well.

Boba, now known as Bobby after his Dad, and Pearl, now known as Johnny, are amazing boys. They are truly a bonded pair and choose to do many things together.

It took them about a week of shyness to decide my husband and I were okay parents. They love to explore the three levels of our home and have various sleeping places when they want to be alone.

They are fabulous lap cats, and love bird watching in the window seats where the bird feeders are attached. They both take a nap with me every afternoon but do not choose to sleep all night in our bed.

They have finally made friends with my other two cats but love to spend alone time with each other.

My husband and I adore these special boys and feel very fortunate we were allowed to give them a home. They definitely complete our lives!"

Monty & Feebie

In April 2024, this beautiful, bonded pair of siblings came to the Shelter at age 7 after their owner passed away. Their mother was a street cat in a neighboring town, who looked just like black, long-haired Monty.

Monty was an easy going fellow. He was so handsome, and he knew it. He loved to be brushed and rewarded us with blissful purrs. He was a love bug who liked to be petted and be near people all the time. He enjoyed batting around wand toys, sitting high on top of a cat tower, or snoozing on a chair.

Feebie was a regal, but shy lady. At first, she hissed a lot, but it was all hot air. She was a gentle beauty and a very cautious kitty. She liked to watch things from high above, keeping her distance until she felt sure that all was secure. When she started to know a person, she showed it by slow blinking with her eyes. Eventually her curiosity took over, and she would move closer and take treats from one’s hand.

Bonding with Feebie was special because it took patience and understanding to earn her trust. Every step towards winning her over felt precious. With Monty by her side, she found the confidence to bond with humans again after her beloved person passed away. She made great strides at the Shelter to come out of her shell. Eventually she became brave enough to walk up to a new visitor who was calm and in possession of a bag of treats!

Monty and Feebie were looking for a quiet home with patient, cat-savvy people who would welcome them both, and who could give them a safe haven with a reliable routine. That very special person arrived at the Shelter last summer and adopted the pair. But unfortunately, Feebie couldn’t settle into her new environment. The cats returned to the Shelter for another 3 months until they found their final home.

On January 7th Monty and Feebie were adopted by a young couple, Laurie and Brenhin in Canaan, NH. They had a loft in their house, with a room upstairs which would be a great safe space for the kitties, especially Feebie. She could spend as much time as she needed up there to hide or to gaze down on her new family until she felt ready to join.

On January 11th Laurie wrote: “Things are going well with us. It took Monty about a day and a half to settle in and he is now an absolute love bug. He mews at us when we come in and then jumps on the bed for pets and brushing. Then he hangs out with us while we read our books. He is ready to explore the rest of the house, and we are so glad to give him all the love!!!

Feebie is cautious, but no surprise there. She spends a lot of the time hiding under the table or behind the litter boxes, but she has been enjoying the cubby hole in the cat tree as well. She does come out to eat and use the litter box while we’re distracted with Monty, and she doesn’t immediately run and hide when we enter the room, so hopefully she’s learning that we’re not a threat. We haven’t tried to win her over with food or anything yet, since it seems like she’s still decompressing, but we’ll try to give her treats when she seems more comfortable. Happy to give her as much time as she needs!”

On January 29th Laurie sent an update: “The kitties are doing well! Monty is an absolute sweetheart, and we're constantly amazed how affectionate and tolerant he is. The kitties have full run of the house now, and Monty frequently comes downstairs to sit on our laps and get brushed while we sit in the living room. He also sleeps in our bed (he would like to be under the covers but we're a little afraid of squishing him!). He's really the sweetest cat we could imagine.

Feebie seems to be getting more comfortable, slowly. She spends most of her time in the cubby hole of the cat tree, which we've moved into the loft, and it seems like she feels safe there. She is still getting used to us and doesn't want us too close, but she does tolerate our presence if we come bearing Churu, which she will lick off our fingers. She is pretty confident upstairs, but we have not seen her venture downstairs, although the past couple of nights it's looked like she's working up to it. She does jump up on our bed while we're asleep/sufficiently distracted, but she jumps back down if we acknowledge her presence. She and Monty are so cute together! They've been chasing and pouncing on each other, as well as chortling and cutely mewing. She's really adorable, and we've been enjoying seeing more of her personality emerge.

We are so, so glad to have these cuties in our lives!!”
