July 2025 Cat Adoptions

Marie

Marie was surrendered to the Shelter in April after her owner, an elderly gentleman, had been away in a nursing home for 2 months. His landlord tended to Marie and another cat in the apartment, but the kitties were basically left alone. When it became clear that their owner wouldn’t be able to return, the cats were given into our care.

Marie was quite chubby, but cheerful and friendly with her caretakers from the start. She loved walking around in the Shelter lobby to greet visitors, although running and jumping was hard on her legs, because of her weight; she got tired very soon. She needed to be on a slow weight-loss diet with appropriate meal sizes and gentle daily exercise, so that she could become light-footed again.

Although Marie had lived with another cat, she much preferred to be without feline company. She liked to be brushed and petted, but when she had enough, she would take your hand firmly in her mouth, looking straight at you with her stunning green eyes.
Ingrid from Sugar Hill, NH, had lost her soul cat a while ago and was longing for a new feline companion. She quickly made up her mind when she was introduced to Marie at the Shelter and adopted her on July 5th.

Ingrid sent regular updates and photos in the following weeks:

July 5: “Here is my wonderfully content new sweetie.  She’s so calm and loving!  The steps going to my upstairs area are steep but are no problem for her.  Amazing!  Thank you so much for suggesting her for me. I absolutely love her! I’ve had a few love bites but she’s so gentle. She jumped up on my lap and put her paws on my chest. It felt so good, and I’ve never before had a cat that did that. I’m smiling and so happy!!”

July 6: “She’s wonderful. So calm and so beautiful. When I tell her I love her, she slowly blinks her eyes, so she knows what I’m saying. She did sleep with me last night wrapped in my left arm with her head on my pillow next to my head!”

July 16: “I am so happy with Marie, now Merrie. We get along beautifully, and she always wants to be near me. I weighed her and she’s down to 15.19 pounds, so, slowly she’ll lose weight!”

July 31: “Merrie is an absolute joy, and we have totally bonded. From day one, she started sleeping in my bed and I’m so happy to have her comfort me at night. She is so sweet and loving and I tell her constantly how much I love her. I thank everyone at the shelter for introducing her to me and realizing what a good fit it would be. I am so delighted everything worked out so well. Merrie is a real treasure!”

Clovis

In early July, Diane from Greensboro contacted Kingdom Animal Shelter regarding a stray tuxedo cat around her house. She stated that she had been feeding the cat for about 2 months and although the cat was initially fearful, he turned out to be very friendly. He liked to be petted. At the time, Diane and her husband Michael felt that they couldn’t take the cat into their home, because he seemed scared of their two beagles. Diane had posted him as a lost cat on Facebook and other sites with no response. Clovis came to the Shelter on July 7th.

Diane and Michael missed Clovis right away. They decided to do everything to give this sweet cat a home and make it work with their dogs. When Clovis had gotten a thorough medical exam and settled into his Shelter room for his 5-day isolation and observation time, Diane and Michael submitted their application to adopt him. Their adoption counselor gave them an excellent article about how to introduce new pets to a home with other animals and they found it very helpful. They planned to make their bedroom his safe room, from which they would introduce him to the dogs through a gate. Clovis would get to sleep with them every night. Knowing how companionable he was, we knew that he would absolutely love that! The adoption team felt sure that Diane and Michael would take very good care of Clovis. He went home to Greensboro on July 20.

In the evening Diane wrote: “Clovis is adjusting wonderfully.💞 He has eaten and used the litter box. Our grandson came by and got to meet him. Thank you again, he is precious!”

On July 30 Diane wrote: “Clovis is doing very well. I'm wondering if I should get an appointment with my vet. He is constantly hungry. I don't mind giving him bits of kibble in between, but I guess I’m a bit concerned, should I be?💞 Here are a couple pics of our handsome boy.”

Miriam & Stanley

Miriam and her ginger brother Stanley were brought to the Shelter as 6-month-old kittens, after they were left behind by a person who moved out of state. They were total sweethearts. They loved to be petted, sit on a lap, and play with their caretakers. They were gentle kitties but had lots of energy to play and race around.

Lovely Miriam had the tiniest purr and quickly curled up on one’s lap. Her fur was super soft and matched her personality. She was the bolder of the two, could jump over the highest cat gate and would sometimes chase after other young Shelter cats whom she didn’t agree with. Stanley was your typical, affectionate orange boy, a little timid at times, but very social with his human friends. The siblings were devoted to each other.

Miriam and Stanley found the perfect home on July 23 with a young family with kids from Sheffield.

The family soon reported that Miriam and Stanley were "living their best kitty lives." They made themselves right at home and were very loving. They were eating well and using the litter box with no issues.

When the kittens first arrived at home, sensitive Stanley was hiding for a while under the living room couch. He had to get used to the energy of young children who were excited to welcome their new cat friends. But soon, everybody enjoyed playing together. The kitties loved chasing the wand toys and climbing their new cat tower.

Ben & Chunky Monkey

In the beginning of April, a group of 8 young kittens were surrendered to Kingdom Animal Shelter and placed into foster homes. They had been socialized extremely well by their original caretakers; all of them were super friendly and adorable!

Ben and Chunky Monkey were two little darlings who were cared for by foster mom Tori. Three months later they found a loving home with Karen in Windsor, VT. While preparing her home for adopting the cats, Karen fell down a ladder and injured herself. But she didn’t let that stop her from welcoming her new fur babies at home!

A few days after the adoption Karen reported:
“Just checking in! Ben and Belle (aka Chunky Monkey) have settled in well. They have made themselves at home, throughout the house. Ben is already very comfortable while Belle is more cautious.

We have not ventured onto the porch yet, waiting for cooler temps and I also want to be out there with them to clean a bit (mostly bugs and spider webs lol) while they explore.
They are both eating and using the litter box. They LOVE the stairs in the house! We are waiting on an order with more litter, food, and toys! I have been at home with them the whole time, recovering from my fall (slow progress). Have a wonderful day!!”

Wasabi & Chili Pepper

The brothers Wasabi and Chili Pepper were born in a shed in Walden, along with their two ginger sisters Tamari and Sushi. Their mother was an outdoor cat who had chosen a cozy tool shed with great hiding places as a safe place for her little family. Maybe she knew that the humans next door would look out for her and make sure that her babies would be taken care of…Cats are very intuitive!

When the kittens were 2 months old, their mother Winnie was trapped by a Shelter volunteer. Within a few days the kittens were also caught and placed in a foster home. Winnie found a wonderful ‘job’ and home with a responsible barn cat owner. She joined a cat team of dedicated mousers in a horse barn, with benefits: a safe and warm sleeping space, regular meals and health care.

Although Wasabi and Chili Pepper had no human interactions as kittens, they were very friendly and endearing. Foster mom Dana couldn’t resist their baby charm and sweet personalities. She and her husband decided to adopt them on July 30. The kittens share their forever home with two young children, who are very gentle with the animals, and two soulful beagles.
