ROAD TRIP!!!! A clear, crisp Fall day. The sun brightens everything. A long dirt road winds up into the hills, flanked on either side by old gnarly maples, their golden orange leaves intermittently swirling to the ground, covering the road with Nature’s carpet. Up, up we go, until we finally come to Kathy’s house.
Kathy Bouffard is one of our Board members. Kathy Bouffard LOVES animals. Kathy Bouffard is one of the nicest people I know. I just love Kathy Bouffard!
Kathy and Dennis have lived in their present home for 30 years. They have always had pets, cats, dogs, mainly adopted, giving these lucky animals a stable, loving home. About 11 years ago, Kathy adopted a horse named Abe…a big beautiful bay fella. For a while, Abe was boarded nearby. But Kathy really wanted to “have him home”. So, in 2022, Kathy and Dennis built a barn for Abe. They did it almost all by themselves. And it is gorgeous, and rather large. As Dennis said, “I know Kathy. It won’t be just Abe that needs a home. There will be others.”
And others there have been. There is a miniature 20 year old pony named “Dude”.

There is a 28 year old donkey named Horseradish who came with his own 15 year old calico friend, Peanut.
And there is 8 year old Bentley, a rather large pig, who has two lagomorph flop eared friends, Richard and Mila.
And recently, Kathy and Dennis adopted two small dogs, Mama who is 14, and Penny, who is 7.
These join in the pet family with four in-house kitties.

Our visit with Kathy, to meet her animals and see her barn and just spend time talking, was one of the delights of the Fall for me.

I definitely had a smile on my face as I drove back down the long dirt road home, through the ever brightening colors of a Vermont Fall. Aren’t we lucky to have such wonderful animal friendly folks in our midst.
