February & March 2025 Adoptions

Thunder and Noodle
Thunder and Noodle were adopted as kittens and grew up in a loving home. Sadly, one of the children there developed severe asthma and the family had to make the heartbreaking decision to let them go when the cats were 3 years old.
Thunder, the black kitty was super social and affectionate. He was a big guy who welcomed new friends with glee and liked to explore all the new spaces at the Shelter. Noodle, the little tiger, was a sweetheart. He would hide under a blanket, but he started purring in an instant when one paid attention to him. He was a total love bug and so gentle. We hoped to find a home with a young family for these great cats, since they had been close friends to the children in their former home.

Luckily, Eric and Stephanie from Burlington adopted them in February. They had a new baby and a gentle 3.5-year-old boy. Little Arthur missed his black kitty Bean, who had died last fall at an old age. The house was full of toys and had lots of spaces to explore for adventurous Thunder while Noddle could be purring away on the family couch.

On February 5th Eric wrote: “So far so good! Thunder’s great, running all over, delighting Arthur by going into his room a lot. Noodle’s slowly getting more comfortable, still loves his petting under the bed, but now comes out from under the bed more often. Slow and steady progress for him.”

February 16th: “Kitties are doing great! Thunder continues to be very social, and Noodle’s now feeling comfortable hanging out around the house throughout the day, though is still skittish at times. All good so far!”

Autumn and Scout
On a Tuesday afternoon in October, a man stopped by the Shelter and said that he had four very young kittens whose mother was killed by a car. He didn’t know what to do with them. We took them in, and because they were buff- and orange-colored, we lovingly called them “The Sweet Potatoes.” They soon went home with foster mom Tori.

Autumn and her brother Scout had a bond like no other. They were social butterflies and the perfect combination of sassy and sweet. They turned anything into a fun game or toy, but when they got tired out, curling up and taking a nap on a lap was their favorite place to be. They were very people oriented and like to be out and in the action of their foster home while also having great enthusiasm for rough play!

Laura from Lebanon, NH, had lost her beloved Milli after 15 years and she missed her terribly. Although she was still grieving, she decided to invite new feline friends into her life and to her beautiful home that she shared with her husband Duane. They adopted Autumn and Scout on February 20th.

Hello KAS friends!
I can’t believe it has already been OVER a month since we brought Bea and Charlie home (Autumn and Scout). They were so brave and took only a handful of days to settle in for the most part. In the past week, they have really turned a corner, though, especially Bea – she is so giving with her love now! Charlie was obvious about when he started to feel at home because he stopped hiding toys under the bed, and I knew he decided he could really trust us when he brought out the spring Tori sent with them. So. Precious. Julia was right – having little friends to focus on helps to keep you in the present. They have significantly lessened our grief and given us something to look forward to every day! Their snuggles and purrs sure are the best medicine.

As Tori expected, they have quickly made it ‘their house’ and we’re just guests in it.😉 They surely turn EVERYTHING into a game. Charlie’s favorite is to steal my glasses and run with them – I’m so blind I can’t find them, so I now have cases for them in almost all rooms for safekeeping. Bea has a thing for the sink strainers/plugs, so we play the game where she steals it, and I find and replace it. Repeat x1,000. Their antics are just so adorable! All days must begin with sink drinks. They love to sit between the shower curtains and occasionally poke their heads in for a faucet drink, too. I have a plan to offer them a little container of very shallow water to splash around in on the porch this summer.

Charlie helps remind me to take breaks by coming to my desk about every 3ish hours for a quick snuggle. Bea is madly in love with my husband Duane. She has yet to climb on counters, but her brother has been exploring them for weeks. He found the area above the kitchen on Saturday, and quickly realized he couldn’t get down! Has not gone back up… yet. They do not think hats are as fun as I do – ha!
All in all, we love them very much and are so glad you chose us to spend our lives together.
With gratitude, Laura and Duane

Greta and Ciri
In November, three beautiful long-haired kittens were rescued by Darlene of Butlers Bus in Lyndonville. The kittens were believed to be from a feral mom. The two brothers were adopted in January. Their sister Greta made friends with another little girl, Ciri, who had been found as a stray. They all spent time with foster mom Pat to be babied and socialized, before they came to the Shelter after Christmas time.

Pat described the girls: “Greta is a stunningly beautiful long-haired Torti and is always full of fun. She is very affectionate, enjoys lap time and has a lovely loud purr. Greta has never met a shoelace that she couldn't untie and play with.

Ciri is the most energetic and athletic kitten! She moves like a gymnast and sometimes pirouettes like a ballet dancer. She is super friendly and enjoys petting on your lap, but she does not stay long as she has so many worlds to conquer.”
Greta and Ciri became great friends and playmates. They both liked to be where the action was. They loved to be petted and were often found together on a cat tree, snuggling or playfully wrestling.

They were adopted on February 28th by Gillian and her young family in Peacham.

Jesse and Ada
The two young calico sisters Ada and Jesse arrived at the Shelter in the end of January. They had shown up at their rescuer’s doorstep in late summer and were taken inside to prevent pregnancies. No one in the neighborhood was claiming the young cats as theirs. When their good Samaritan had to move a few months later, the sisters were surrendered to the Shelter.
Jesse and Ada were calm, sweet and cuddly. Jesse was curious, liked to see new faces and what was going on in the Shelter. Ada was a little shyer at first, but always ready for pets. She loooved belly rubs. These girls adored each other and their human caretakers. They could often be seen in a furry, snuggly heap, waiting to be petted and making biscuits.

“The cats have settled in nicely and are showing their true personalities. I have kept their names and added a second one: Ada Blue and Jesse Belle.
Ada is just a love bug and becoming very adventurous. She seeks quiet lap time and is such a dainty eater. Ada is showing her hunting skills by capturing a toy, meowing and dropping it at my feet. On the opposite side is Jesse. Quite the mischievous and sassy tortie. Loves to eat and waits patiently to see if Ada has left morsels in her dish.

Jesse is going through some behavior modification training and learning that counters aren't for cats, and she doesn't need to eat every 2 hours. Her way of getting into your graces is to nudge your face and purr. Jesse has taken on the role of greeter at our house when we have company.
Both girls still cuddle, wash each other, and talk between themselves. Jesse trills and Ada responds with soft cries.”

Homer and Holly
In Fall, a cat-loving couple in Lyndonville asked for assistance with a litter of kittens. The kittens’ parents were two stray cats who had made themselves at home around the house. The couple was committed to keeping the adult cats, getting them fixed and vaccinated, socializing them and surrendering the 6 kittens to the Shelter as soon as they were old enough to be separated from their mother. At 8-weeks-old, four of the kittens came to foster mom Pat’s kindergarten.

Pat described these two: "Our sweet boy Homer chooses to spend his time chasing shoestrings or in my lap where he loves to snuggle with his sister Holly. They often fall asleep in my arms. He is such a beautiful boy with his buff color and lovely markings.
Our little communicator Holly always greets me with plenty of meows before she settles into my lap for a loud purring session and snuggles. I believe that she and Homer would sit on my lap all day if I had time enough to spend with them. Holly could not be any sweeter and she is such a beautiful girl."

These sweeties were adopted by Henekis and her young family in Sutton.

“Lovely to hear from you and thanks for checking in on these wonderful kitties. They are doing great! We all have gotten into our joint routines and thriving. We are absolutely in love with them and the kid’s joy level is through the roof. The kitties are happy and healthy. Growing like weeds! They are curious and playful. They love the front window and the long stretch of floor that they can chase each other across. They lounge all day and then do acrobatics and gymnastics for us with each other in the evening 😊. I could go on and on as they happily occupy a lot of my heart and mind. Attached is a picture I took the other day in their new cat tree. They each have their favorite perch. Check in anytime and we’ll send updates as they grow!”

Noelle and Stripe
Two other siblings who landed at Pat’s foster home were sisters Noelle and Stripe: “The smallest of the siblings, little Noelle, is very playful and curious. She would rather chase the toy mouse than eat, therefore she needs some encouragement during mealtimes so that she will grow big and strong. Right now, Noelle chooses playing over laptime, but she always purrs when petted and she is a lovely girl. Always the first kitten at the door to greet me, our little Stripe is very brave and loves people. Her coloring is absolutely gorgeous. This friendly girl enjoys petting almost as much as she enjoys chasing balls.”

Noelle and Stripe were adopted by Kelley and Shawn from Bath, NH. They had lost their beloved cat friend of 20 years who was very special and close to them and could never be replaced. But Kelley and Shawn were open to giving a new pair of kittens a loving home. They took the girls home on March 22nd. They planned to keep the kittens in their own bedroom for a few days until they were settled in and confident enough to explore the house.
