From Rags to Riches!!
- As imagined by King Arthur to Helen Morrison, President, Board of Directors
It is hard for me to remember all about my kittenhood, as I have had a pretty rough time lately…until a sweet young person started taking care of me.
When I was very young, in a barn, someone scooped me up and gave me to some people to take to their home. I liked being in the barn, warm in the hay with my siblings, and nestled into my mom. I liked the smell of the cows and their warmth. It was very comfortable.
In my new home, there was lots of stuff around the house. My humans let me out. They fed me. They cuddled and petted me. I had some kitty girlfriends outside…and that was fun. What wasn’t fun was fighting with other boy cats. Some were bigger than me and beat me up a bit.
But mostly, life was okay. I think my humans cared about me, because they petted me a lot.
But one day, some of the stuff in the house got moved around, and my humans were moving around pretty fast. And then all of a sudden, they got in that movable big box, closed the doors, and away they went…..and never came back.
I tried to get back into the house…because, maybe they were coming back, maybe they had left some food. But they never came back. I waited….and waited….and waited.
It was getting very cold…and I couldn’t wait any longer. I wandered for a while, seeing if I could find a warm place. At last, I found a very nice young woman who talked to me and petted me and gave me food, and tried to keep me warm, which wasn’t easy, because it was getting really really cold. I could feel it in the tips of my ears. I could feel it in my feet. And the scrapes on my front legs from fighting were hurting me.

Then…all of a sudden, one day when it was the coldest ever, the young woman wrapped me up in a blanket…and took me away in her movable box. We drove for a while, and then were inside another building…neat and tidy and clean and warm. I think they called it a Shelter.
Several very nice women unwrapped me on a metal table. They did all sorts of things to me while I was asleep. And when I woke up, I was in a sweet room with lots of beds and toys and a place to go to the bathroom…and water and food. It was wonderful.
I had lots of cuts and scratches and a squinty eye…but nice people came and fed me and sat with me and petted me…and put wet in my eye and washed my cuts and put a gooey stuff on the tips of my ears, because they really hurt. The tips finally fell off. I think they had gotten too cold. But everything got better and better. I felt better and better. I got to come out of my private room and wander a bit and even go out into the kitchen for some special snacks.
They named me King Arthur…because they thought I needed a royal name.
How about that!!!

And then…low and behold…in a pretty short amount of time…a very sweet warm woman came into the Shelter. She did look at another black and white kitty, like me. I was so hoping she would come see me, too. And she did!!! She said “oh, this is the one I want. He is wonderful and beautiful.” I LOVED hearing those words. I almost smiled, I was so happy.
After a few days, and after finishing up some medicines for various things I had…I was put in a box with a wire front (they called it a carrier). This time I wasn’t scared much at all…because I felt like something really good was going to happen for me.
And it did!!!!
I have a new home now. They say it is my forever home. They gave me a new name, Murphy. My humans got me a tall tower, so I can sit up high and watch the goings on. I get to sit on the couch. I get to sleep wherever I want. I have a new friend, a doggy friend named Baby. We do okay together.

And almost my favorite is sitting on my human dad’s lap and watching sports games together.
How neat is that!!!
I am one very lucky boy, that’s for sure. I was well loved once, even though maybe not so well taken care of…and even though that ended…I found a safe Shelter place for a bit…and then I found the most perfect forever home with my new humans and my new canine friend.

Definitely, Rags to Riches!!! Here are some things my humans have said about me:

Hi everyone!!
I just wanted to give you an update on our now named cat, Murphy (previously known as King Arthur). He is doing so well!! He has his own spare room with all the necessaries, from food to litter box, but has recently ventured downstairs….all on his own!! He enjoyed coming down and checking out his new home. He even has met Baby again, and they don’t seem to mind each other. He was also very interested in my hamster, who quickly got a new room!! He loves to sit with Alan and watch tv while being patted!! He is still partial to his room, but we are glad he is feeling comfortable enough to come visit (although I’m visiting him often upstairs!). He’s truly is a joy….and like I said before, exactly what we were looking for. ❤️
Thank you SOOOO much for everything,

KAS Nancy R reports that Murphy and Baby are doing fine together.
I asked about KA being a bully to Baby and Nancy said "I don't see KA doing that and that Baby would probably just bark at him."
Mom Nancy said that "KA is so funny. He has already decided he is the man of the house. He walks with lots of confidence. "

And more from Nancy Rivet:
I spoke to Nancy L today to get a final update on King Arthur, now Murphy.
Arthur went home on March 7 so it has been a full 3 weeks.
Nancy reported that Murphy is a very happy kittie, is great and she says he is so funny.
Nancy says that he is very chatty and talks a lot. At the time that we were speaking, Murphy was napping in the dog's bed because he is now almost 13 pounds and is a "big boy." Nancy says he is not overweight, just a big boy. He is still being fed twice a day with snacks in between.
Murphy is doing fine with the family dog. They seem to coexist and understand one another.

There is no cuddling between the 2 of them, but there are also no problems between them. Murphy is a real love bug and is very affectionate. He is their shadow, always. Murphy loves Alan (Nancy's husband) and often goes back and forth between Alan and Nancy, sitting with each of them.
Murphy loves to sit with Alan in the recliner, and particularly the arm of the recliner. He also sleeps on the bed at night (on and off) but prefers to sleep on the edge of the bed.
Nancy says that Murphy "rules the house." Nancy says that Murphy's ears look great and are all healed. His right eye (I think) is still a bit smaller than the left eye, but there is no runniness or swelling.
Overall, Nancy says that Murphy is "such a good guy, they are so happy with him, he is exactly what they wanted, and he is a gift."
