September 2025 Adoptions

Ellis, Reed & Rex
These three gorgeous, young, longhaired brothers arrived at Kingdom Animal Shelter in December 2024.
Ellis, Reed and Rex grew up in a tiny one-bedroom-apartment that was shared by a family with six cats and one dog. As the three brothers grew from kittenhood to large adult cats, they became very unhappy in the crowded situation without much space to race around and play. They started to urinate outside the box to make their stress known, and the family decided to give them up.
The three boys moved into the largest room of the Shelter with lots of climbing options, big windows and additional space to roam in the back hallway. They were gentle cats with sweet personalities. They could be tentative at first but when they got to know a person, they were super loving. Ellis, the orange one, was the most outgoing, the leader of the pack. His brother Reed followed his directions. Ellis and Reed soon loved to snuggle on the lap of their caretakers at the Shelter.

It took Rex a long time to come out of his shell. For several months he rather stayed in his cozy cat cave and observed what was going on from afar. But he was very gentle and eventually came forward to be petted along with his brothers.
The trio seemed quite attached to each other and it was our dream to find them a home for life where they could stay together.
Tom from Bath, NH, made that dream come true when he took all three boys to his home on September 4th.

Tom from Bath, NH, made that dream come true when he took all three boys to his home on September 4th.
On September 8th adoption counselor Nancy reported:
“Reed, Rex and Ellis have now been home for 4 days. Initially, Ellis was hiding the most.
But when I spoke to Tom this evening, he said that the boys were all doing well and Ellis had decided that he will be Mr. Adventurer. Reed and Rex are hiding but are moving around.
Ellis looks after his brothers, checks on them and spends time with each.
Tom says that Ellis is a big lover boy. He loves to be petted and scratched behind his ears. The cats are more active at night, and they can be seen for short times, checking on the human residents of the house. One can tell that the cats are playing during the night because in the morning items in the home have been moved around or knocked over.
They seem to be getting more comfortable every day and are fitting into the home very well. Tom feels that they are realizing that they have lots of places to explore. He says that he is very happy with their progress; he thought that it would have taken quite a bit longer for the brothers to settle in. Tom signed them all up for health insurance today.
Overall, a great first few days!”

“I have spoken with Tom a few times, most recently today. Tom reports that the boys are all doing great and have taken over the house.
For meals, they each have their own placemat and bowls. They know their spots and line up correctly for each meal. Tom gets lots of reminders when it is time to eat!
The boys' personalities are showing more and more, and they now spend time with their human companions rather than hiding.
Ellis is reported to be the ringleader, and Tom refers to him as Dennis the Menace. Ellis gets into more stuff than his brothers and tends to knock things down (on purpose) while Tom is looking at him. Reed is a lover boy and a lap cat.
Rex is slowly getting over his shyness. He is coming out more and more and is very vocal. Rex actually loves to be petted or scratched and will fall over on his side purring loudly.
The boys love a red blanket at the end of Tom’s bed, and they all try to fit on it at the same time. They are eating well and there are no issues at all with the litter boxes. The cats run around everywhere and play chase games with each other, which sounds like a freight train going through the house!
Tom says that the brothers are a great fit for the household, they are all very affectionate and everybody is super happy with them!”

Lotti
In mid-April a very pregnant orange kitty named Maple arrived at the Shelter. Maple was a shy and sensitive little cat, who had lived as a stray in an open garage all last winter. Maple’s long fur was heavily matted which made her legs stick to her body so that she could hardly walk. It was a frightful time for her. A good Samaritan finally took her home, carefully shaved her fur off, and brought her to KAS.
Maple got her own nursery room to live in. Two weeks later she gave birth to three healthy kittens on April 26th. When her babies Lotti, Quince and Brownie were three months old in June, they entered foster kindergarten with volunteer Salem Tucker and her family in Lyndonville.

Salem had helped fostering many kitten litters in the past years since she started volunteering at the Shelter with her mother Julia. They had passed their foster kittens on to new homes, gladly and sometimes with a heavy heart. Their friendly family cat Wart also had seen many new cat friends come and go. But this time everything lined up perfectly for Salem and Wart to keep one of the kittens for themselves. Lotti, the little gray tigress, was officially adopted by Salem on August 18th.
Her mother Julia wrote on August 19th:
“Lotti, is always found hanging out near Salem on the couch. The rest of the cats are often in the opposite corner of the house together, except for Lotti who just settles in wherever Salem is.
Lotti’s new name is Ori. It's the main character of one of Salem's favorite video games. The story line is about a cat-like animal spirit finding their adoptive family.”
On September 11th Julia wrote:
“Ori is a complete sweetheart! I was finally able to get a few pictures of Ori with Wart. And Ori really likes sitting in Salem's art supply box watching her do her homework!”

Quince & Brownie
Lotti’s siblings Quince and Brownie stayed with their foster family until they found a wonderful home together in the end of September.

Brownie was a pretty Tortoiseshell kitten with a shiny dark coat, flecked with buff and white spots. She loved her brother Quince and spent lots of time with him, playing and cuddling. She also made friends with foster cat Wart.
Brownie was an adventurous and bright little girl. She needed to get to know her new human friends first before she trusted to be petted. But with some patience and love she dropped her caution and showed her sweet and playful side.

Quince was a happy and talkative boy.
He seemed to always have something on his mind when he greeted people with a meow. He had amazing orange fur with a distinct mackerel pattern. He loved running and playing with his sisters and had lots of energy.
He quickly made friends with other cats and enjoyed being around people.

Claudia from Lebanon adopted Quince and Brownie on September 24th.
It was Claudia's first personal adoption. She came with excellent references for the care of her family's cats when growing up. Even after moving away from home, she would make sure that her family did the right things for their kitties. Claudia had waited to adopt her own cats until all the circumstances were right in terms of being settled in a large enough apartment and having a stable income for cat care, pet insurance and emergencies. For some time now, Claudia had dreamed of having an orange male and a tortoiseshell female cat, without any expectations that such a pair would actually come into her life. Therefore, she was thrilled when she saw Quince and Brownie on the Petfinder website, available for adoption near her place, and applied for them.
On the day she took the kittens home, Claudia sent her first update:
“I wanted to tell you how the kittens are doing! Brownie is mostly hiding out in the little nook I made for them, but after a nap Quince played with me for a while, went to the litterbox, ate some kibble, and hopped up on my bed with me and asked for pets :) So he seems pretty happy! He and Brownie snuggled up together and they batted around some toys a tiny bit. They were very brave and came out of hiding for a few minutes and went around the room together.”
On September 28th Claudia wrote:
“Just wanted to share how well the kittens are doing! Quince is super curious and by day two he was out exploring the apartment (with Brownie following his lead). They are both super affectionate and chirpy, and they love running around the apartment with toys and playtime before bed (and early morning 😅). Brownie has been especially cuddly. She sat on my lap yesterday for the first time! But Quince likes to come up to say hi and get a couple of pets throughout the day!”

Theo
Theo was first adopted from KAS as a kitten in 2018. But due to health problems in his adoptive family, he was surrendered back to the Shelter in August.
Theo was first adopted from KAS as a kitten in 2018. But due to health problems in his adoptive family, he was surrendered back to the Shelter in August.
Now 7 years old, Theo was very social, super friendly and loved to have his belly rubbed. He was a wonderful companion cat who got along well with other cats, but it was obvious that he wouldn’t mind having his humans all for himself to cuddle and love. He greeted every new person like an old friend. It was no wonder that he only spent a couple of weeks at the Shelter before finding a new home.
Dennis and Patricia from St. Johnsbury adopted Theo on September 14th and brought him to their nice little ranch house. There was a living room window for Theo to look out of, and a finished basement to explore. Theo was very happy to be with his retired couple who would spend 99% of their time at home with their feline snuggle buddy!

Sylvester & Oreo
Volunteer and trapper Nancy P. rescued a litter of four male kittens last November and fostered them at her home.

Sylvester and Oreo were very sweet and affectionate. Sylvester was a loving boy with lots of energy. He wanted to be close to you and give kisses while purring up a storm. He was active and playful. Oreo also was a love bug and wanted to cuddle a lot, especially in bed under the covers while purring. He was very playful with his brother.
They were adopted on September 27th by Krissi and Peter, a semi-retired couple in Berlin, VT, who had a long history of cat loves in their lives.
On September 30th Krissi wrote:
“Sylvester and Oreo are doing great! When they came home on Saturday night, they both decided to stay safe and secure under our bed. Now they are running around the house exploring.
This morning, they watched some wild turkeys out the window, who were walking down our driveway. They love their cat tree and have chosen their spots where they enjoy sitting the most, although Oreo grabbed the top spot from Sylvester last night.
Peter and Oreo play with the laser pen, and I am not sure who likes it more, but they both have a great time! We are loving them more and more with each day!
Krissi and Peter”

Hildie
In early June we received a phone call from a person who had been feeding a female stray cat for a month. The cat was heavily matted and seemed to have an eye infection and a collapsed ear. The caller stated that the cat was very friendly, was trying to get into the house and looked like an older cat.
Arriving at the Shelter, Hildie turned out to be a cheerful and affectionate senior kitty with a very youthful spirit. She was social, loved to make new friends and was such a doll!
Little Hildie only weighted 7lbs and looked like a Mini-Coon. Her long, fluffy fur needed to be shaved to the skin. But by fall she had grown a warm and floofy coat again, which needed regular brushing.

Hildie didn’t like other cats. She needed to be the only pet in a house and be a cherished lap cat of people who would have lots of time for her.
Pierrette and Mike from Derby Line took Hildie home on September 29th. They were life-long cat lovers and would do anything for their kitties.
On September 30th adoption counselor Nancy reported:
“I spoke to Pierette. Hildie talked a bit in the car on the way from the Shelter but was just fine. At home, Hildie was sticking very closely to Pierrette but beginning to explore a limited area in the house. It’s hard to know who was happier.......Hildie or Pierrette!
Hilda was renamed and is now called Daisy Mae. She is doing wonderfully!
Last night, as Pierrette was getting ready for bed, Daisy followed her around. They went downstairs and Daisy spent the night there after her new family went upstairs to bed. In the morning Daisy was so happy when she saw Pierrette again, purring SO loudly!
Daisy loves sitting on the couch next to Pierrette and enjoys watching the leaves fly around outside the windows. Pierrette said that Daisy is doing great, and she is so pleased with her.”
On October 6th Nancy sent updates from Pierrette:
“Daisy Mae is such a sweetheart. She is with us in our family room all the time now. Daisy has access to the whole house, but she pretty much wants to be with us, wherever we are.
She needs so much loving which we are more than happy to give whenever she wants it.
I will miss my Minou forever, but Daisy is filling the hole in my heart. I love having her here. She’s more and more lovable every day. She climbs on both our chests and rubs her face on our chins and cheeks several times a day. We just love that.
We now have an extra little one in the bed overnight. In the morning, I get up first and feed Daisy. Then she goes back upstairs, sitting on the bed while Mike gets ready for work and then comes back downstairs with him. We went to the craft fair in Danville yesterday and bought her a couple of cat nip treats. She loves them. Daisy is awesome and we are very much in love with her!”
