The Daily Dozer: The Final Chapter
-Christine Nockels
Note: Christine is one of our wonderful volunteers. She does morning duty, fosters for us, and is our artist-in-residence, doing great posters and designing our Bonfire T Shirts.
In August of last year, we took in Dozer, a 3 month old kitten. Very early on, we knew that he had some serious issues, with nerves, muscle control, and delayed development. He just couldn’t stay at the Shelter. It wouldn’t be fair to him. And it would be very difficult to adopt him out. Christine offered to foster him. And it has been the most wonderful place for him, being with Christine, with lots of love and good care, and other critter friends. Christine kept a FB Daily Dozer going…with updates and photos, always humorous and sensitive. Here is her last Daily Dozer post.

Dearest Daily Dozer subscribers,
We are nearing the end of another year. The most recent trip around the sun has brought many new adventures, and many wonderful memories. It’s a sad truth that, unfortunately, all good things must come to an end, as they say.
We are saying goodbye to 2024, goodbye to the summer, and we are also saying goodbye to our founder and namesake, Dozer “Bulldozer” Nockels.
Dozer unexpectedly passed away at home, curled up on his foster mom’s bed, with his favorite stuffy by his side, on the afternoon of November 9th, just weeks after celebrating his 1 year foster anniversary.
Dozer may not have known how unique and special he was, but he did know a few things.
He knew he loved his cat tower by the window, and that the best thing on a spring morning is a warm sunbeam to lie in. He knew how delicious licking the gravy from the bottom of a can of Fancy Feast was. He knew one of the greatest comforts in life is a fresh diaper, and he knew he had a knack for excellent journalism.
Dozer is survived by his foster mom, and by 19 foster siblings of the cat, dog, guinea pig, rabbit, degu, and tarantula varieties.
We at the Daily Dozer would like to thank all of you for your support and kind words over the last year. We hope you had as much fun reading about Dozer’s antics as he did taking part in them.
I’d like to end with a quote by Linda MacPherson:
“I’m sorry you died so young, but I know you had a good life, and you died doing something you loved, and that gives me some peace.”
This is The Daily Dozer, signing off.
