A Bengal's Story

Picture
Cats come to us in all sizes, ages, shapes and colors, wonderful personalities, easy or difficult, healthy or troubled, we don’t care – everybody deserves a good life!

But when a “special breed” such as Marvel, the Bengal, is dropped in our lap, we want to be extra careful in finding them a new home, because ordinarily people would pay lots of money at a breeder to get a Bengal cat for their wild-cat leopard looks, athletic traits and friendly dog-like behavior. We thought that someone might want to get her “cheap” for our usual adoption fee, just to sell her for good money.

As expected, when we put her out on the adoption websites in July, a flood of inquiries came down for her from all over the country.
Despite of COVID travel restrictions people wanted to come up for her from Florida and Tennessee, where the pandemic was raging, which was not a safe option.

Luckily the right people were already looking out for her.  Kristie from Massachusetts sent a proper application on day one. She and her partner Chris remodeled their house, giving their new family member the environment that a young Bengal would thrive in: high shelves to climb on, a catio to be safely “outdoors”, proper health care, lots of playtime and many pet friends to play with.

This is Kristie’s story:

“I had been looking for a Bengal cat or kitten for about 2 years, and really wanted to adopt from a shelter. I fell in love with a Bengal cat named Lazarus at the veterinary clinic I used to work at. He had many medical issues, which is why he had been surrendered to our clinic. I loved him like he was my own and quickly grew fond of the Bengal breed. Once sweet Lazarus had passed away due to his medical issues, I began to research the Bengal breed and started my journey to bringing a Bengal home.

I signed up for petfinder.com email notifications that would alert me to Bengal cats/kittens up for adoption near me that fit my home and lifestyle. On July 17th, 2020, I got the petfinder notification that I had been waiting for. I saw a beautiful girl named Marvel, who was surrendered to the Kingdom Animal Shelter because she had a heart murmur and had tested positive for a serious intestinal parasite. I knew my fiancé, Chris, and I could take care of her and give her all the love she needed! We immediately filled out an application and started the process. We are so thankful that Kingdom Animal Shelter accepted our application. We are also incredibly happy that we were able to give Marvel (now Mara) her forever home with her 3 dog siblings and kitty brother Buster! “
