Adopting a Senior Cat
Although November is adopt-a-senior pet month, we thought that this month would be a good fit for us to highlight our senior cats. Senior cats are cats that are over the age of 7 - 10 years. We have multiple loving, senior cats looking for homes where they can live out the rest of their lives in peace and snuggles.

Pros of Adopting a Senior Cat
- Calmer: Most senior cats have already experienced life in a home, and have less energy and potential to destroy things than a younger cat with their rambunctious energy. That doesn't mean that senior cats aren't playful - they too have their favorite toy and occasionally get the zoomies!
- Easier to train: Senior cats have greater attention spans and impulse control than younger cats, making it easier to teach them household ettiqute or cool tricks.
- You know what you're getting: The personality of many kittens changes as they get older. With a senior cat, you know what their personality is, how much energy they have, their likes and dislikes, including if they will get along with other cats and pets. This will help you to decide if the cat is the best fit for your household, before bringing them home.
- Good companions for retired or stay-at-home workers: Senior cats are calm, relaxed, and willing to spend most of the day chilling by your side. That doesn't mean that you need to be at home all day to adopt a senior pet. They would likely be just as content to find a soft, comfy place to relax and keep warm for when you come back home.
- Cost: At Kingdom Animal Shelter, the adoption fee of a cat 6 years and older is half that of an adult cat, at $47.50. Additionally, if a senior citizen adopts a cat 6 years and older, the adoption fee is only $40.00.
Potential Cons of Adopting a Senior Cat
- Lower energy level: Senior cats won't be as playful or energetic as younger cats. To some, this is a con, while to others, this is a desired trait.
- Less time with the cat: Since senior cats are older, you will have fewer years with your cat than if you adopt a younger cat. Senior cats also have the potential to have more medical conditions when you adopt them, although any cat is more likely to develop conditions later in life.

Cinco
Hi, I'm Cinco. I’m an older man of 13 years who has been living on the streets for my whole life. Now, I’m ready to settle down and join a family. I am still a little shy when I meet someone new, but before long, I’ll start cuddling with you. I enjoy lounging around, listening to bedtime stories, and observing everything that goes on around me.
