Our New Cat Library
-Helen Morrison, Board President
Who doesn’t love cuddling up with a good book???!!! With a cup of tea or hot cocoa and a big comfy chair? What makes it even better? Cuddling up with a good book AND a good kitty.
The Shelter has many friends, one of whom is Josette Lyders of Peacham. Josette loves our Shelter, who we are, how we tend. And Josette is a true cat lover. Josette is a former librarian and purveyor of fine books. She knows how to tend to books well.
Josette has a wonderful collection of cat books. Her collection includes cat books for children, novels about cats, resource books about cats, books about cats that have a Vermont connection.
Josette has graciously donated her collection of fifty-seven cat books to Kingdom Animal Shelter. They are in beautiful shape, many with lovely protective covers. Our own volunteer, Tori Gerritts, messaged on FB, looking for a nice glass door cabinet to house Josette’s collection. Diane and Jeffrey Bean, who are adopters of KAS kitties Sunshine and Shadow (now Pitter and Patter) donated a very cute, perfect book cupboard.
We have set up a corner in the shelter lobby, where folks can sit and read a cat book to whatever cat is having its time out in the lobby. Or a volunteer can just take a quiet moment to relax and read a book. Or a volunteer can even choose a book and go into a cat’s room and sit and read to them.
It is such a gentle, sweet way to interact with our feline residents…in a quiet, unassuming way.
And maybe sometimes, when we aren’t looking, one of the kitties may take out a book of his or her own choosing, and curl up in the comfy chair, to read a good cat story. Who knows??!!
