Children’s Art Exhibit
-Christine Nockels, volunteer
Our wonderful volunteer, Christine Nockels, has been working with students from the Peacham School on art projects through Catamount Arts. The students’ work is on display at Kingdom Animal Shelter.
The works were created by the students in Catamount Arts' Community Arts Club, offered by the St. Johnsbury School's CatCH afterschool program. The students, in grades 3 to 5, focus on arts projects that connect to the wider community of St. Johnsbury and the NEK.
For the final project of the winter session of Community Arts Club, students were prompted to create a portrait of an animal that meant something to them: a real animal they have as a pet, one they’d visited, or even an animal they wish they could have someday.
As the kids worked, stories unfolded: the sweet kitten they have at home as a pet; the cheeky corvid that lives in a tree outside their window; the beloved dog that had to be given away when the family moved; and for one student, the animal that meant the most to them was a dragon from their imagination.
We hope you enjoy viewing these portraits as much as the kids enjoyed creating them.
Their work will be displayed at the Shelter until March 31. Please come and visit during adoption hours, Saturdays, noon to 3. These precious artworks will make you smile.
