Autumn on the Green in Danville
-Rod Lauman, Board member
Every year on the first Sunday in October, the normally sleepy village green in Danville becomes alive with activity. The chill of early Fall is in the air and the hillsides are alive with Autumn colors. Vendors come from all over the region to sell everything under the sun. There are great foods of all kinds, Mediterranean, Jamaican, BBQ meats, and many others. Arts and Crafts of all kinds are offered and well as blacksmithing operations. You can even sample the products from local breweries and distilleries even if it is 10 am in the morning. It's 5 pm somewhere!
I have set up the booth for Kingdom Animal Shelter along with other volunteers at the event for 7 years now and it's one of my favorite events that we do every year. We sell the calendars which are always just out and hot off of the press. We sell our hats and T-shirts and show photos of some of the available cats in the shelter.
The main purpose of the booth is to raise public awareness of the shelter and answer questions and just talk about cats and the shelter in general. There are many people that come by who have adopted from us in the past and always want to give updates on them. It's just a great place for people to just stop and chat about their animals which is always fun to hear.
It's a really festive atmosphere with lots of great food getting consumed, getting to see lots of beautiful things and items that area artists and craftsmen have made. And it's also a great place to present to people what we do and who we are at KAS.
