Thankful for Healing: Spotlight on Zander
Zander is just one of those very special, memorable cats. He is a snout nosed beautiful fella, about 5 years old. He is extremely personable, loves to be with humans. He will get up on the counter at the shelter and look you right in the eyes and then rub his face against your chin. In the morning, when the volunteers come in to tend and Zander is let out of his very spacious room, he makes the rounds, checking on all the other cats, seeing if anything interesting has happened overnight. And Zander has a sense of humor. Once, when Princess went into a cupboard in the kitchen area, Zander walked over and closed the door on her.
As you may know, Zander has had a malformed ear canal. Because of this, he has tended to get infections in his right ear, because fluids build up in there and there is no air flow to keep things drier. About two weeks ago, Drs. Steen and Hunt at Western Ave Vet Clinic performed surgery to straighten out his ear canal...so that it could stay cleaner and drier...and so that his ear drum could reform. It was missing. The surgery was a great success. Zander obviously feels a whole lot better. And he is a trooper about getting his temporary meds in that ear. He looks a bit funny at the moment, with all the fur gone around his right ear. But that will grow back and he will be much more comfortable without those constant infections.
And...he will be ready for his forever home….though to be truthful, all the volunteers at the Shelter would miss him terribly.
