Ebony and her Daughters
"Ebony was 8-months-old and highly pregnant when she came to the Shelter in March. She was one of a large family of shiny black tail-less kitties who all found wonderful homes through KAS in the past year.
Ebony was taken into foster by KAS volunteers Julia and Helen in Cabot.
She gave birth in a cozy cave under the couch to a litter of five on St. Patrick's Day on March 17th, 2022: two boys and three girls. While the little boys where easy-going and confident from day one, the girls all had a difficult start in their lives.

Clover and Aidyn were born slightly immature. Because they were weak, they couldn't suckle strongly enough and needed extra bottle feedings. Their sister Fiona was big and lively but she was born not only tail-less but with part of her sacrum missing, which caused issues with her digestive system. She would need special attention all her life.
The little boys, Guinness and Liam found a wonderful home when they were 5 months old.
But Ebony and her daughters had such odd, whimsical personalities and special needs that they still hadn't found adopters when they were all grown up. They were a close-knit, loving, quirky group of feline joy. It felt as if Ebony had given birth to her best friends and playmates.
Finally, their foster moms couldn't bear to see them go and be separated from each other. They became officially part of the family in January."

Floof
On a cold and rainy November evening a young man who was driving at the edge of town on his way home noticed something unusual at the side of the road. He stopped and found a tiny kitten lying in a puddle, cold and miserable but still alive. He took it home, dried it off and called KAS to find help and to surrender the kitten, since he didn't know what to do for such a baby.
We quickly called volunteer Tori, who is savvy in rescuing kittens. She took the tiny fluff ball, who turned out to be a little girl. At home, Tori carried her in the pocket of her special kitten rescue sweater for warmth and reassurance. Within a day the baby was ready to drink a good amount of milk and to visit our Shelter vet. Dr. Sally declared the kitten to be about a month old, quite underweight but otherwise healthy.
Tori took the kitten back home for fostering. She named her Floof and knew very soon that her family wouldn't be able to part with the little one. Floof stayed with them for good!

There has never been a more purrfect piece to the puzzle that is our family than Floof. She has love for every person, and other cat in the house. She loves to curl up on your lap on a blanket and suckle while purring. She’s also a parrot cat and will cry just to be carried around. Her best friend is Lily Beans, our almost 2-year-old black cat. They curl up and sleep together and also race around the house with their zoomies playing. We love Floof and are so lucky she came into our lives."
Simon
In our January Newsletter we wrote about Simon as our first adopted cat in the year 2023. Here is an update on this beautiful boy in our list of January adoptions. Simon has been part of his new family for a month. Kendra, James and their two young children absolutely adore him.

"We are so in love with Simon and take pictures all the time… My camera roll is now more Simon than my children. He is feeling very comfortable, and he has the run of the house. He has discovered the spiral staircase, and often lounges on the stairs there, or on the master bed upstairs, which is quite a sun trap. I think his favorite spot, which I don’t actually have a picture of, is lounging in his cat bed in front of the woodstove. What a life! My son delights in how playful he is and loves to tempt him with all sorts of kitty toys. He brings so much joy into our lives! I just can’t believe I went so long without a cat in my life. We are so grateful to you all for connecting us with him."
