The Joy of Kitten Friends
-Helen Morrison, Board President
I am trying to imagine being an 8 week old kitten, skinny, unsteady on my feet, suddenly all alone in the middle of a field, surrounded by grass and woods. Nothing to do but mew and mew…and try to run up to any humans who come along. And I am imagining that…all of a sudden, gentle voices come from faces above, and gentle hands reach down and lift me up…to be held.

Meet Geneva. When she was brought to us, she was way underweight ... and had a myriad parasites. But she was so full of the joy of life. Unfortunately, she had to be quarantined for a number of weeks. But we knew that she desperately needed to be with other kittens. Kittens need other kittens to play with, to learn how to behave with other cats, to behave like a cat, even to behave properly with humans. And even if they love their humans, they do so much better when they have other cats and kittens to cuddle with and play with. So it was extremely difficult emotionally for our volunteers to keep her by herself until she was well enough to be with other kittens.
But finally, it was time….and she was brought to foster to be with her new playmates, Nash, Penny, and Georgie. Geneva was instantly ecstatic…playing, running, rolling, jumping, running from one to the other of her new friends. Nash was a little skeptical…but the rest welcomed her right in, and made her feel right at home with her new family. Even Nash is now one of the frolicking four.
It has been about 3 weeks now. And soon, they will all be ready for their new homes.
They will be going home in pairs…because we have learned how important it is for kittens, even those who love their humans, to have kitten friends. If you might have a place in your heart and home for two very cute little feline beings, please let us know.
