July, August, and September Adoptions
Tyler
Tyler just melts your heart. He is a sweet, somewhat shy, caramel tabby, a four year old stray, who was living on his own down on Bay St. in St. Johnsbury. He had all sorts of wounds, is blind in one eye, is FIV+, had some strange parasitic worms and bacteria unusual for a cat. One bacteria had caused some kidney damage.. The building he was living in was slated to be torn down. So a good Samaritan who had been tending to Tyler trapped him, and brought him to us. We are forever grateful.
This sweet boy has now found his forever home. Here is what Jo of Lyndonville writes:
"'Everything that you need will happen at the right time and on time.' I live by the saying...and Tyler is proof. After losing my cat last December, I was just beside myself. At the end of August, I started to look for a cat. I went on the Kingdom Animal Shelter website, and saw Tyler and fell in love with him. Helen explained that Tyler had had a hard life on the streets of St. Johnsbury. He had some health issues that would need attention. I went to meet him shortly after talking with Helen. He was sweet and mellow, a perfect match for him and me, I thought. He is now at home with me and we couldn't be happier. Thank you everyone for your support in getting him."
And we could not be happier for Jo and Tyler. It was meant to be.

Flynn
Mr. Flynn, as he is now known, is a wonderfully gentle, sweet tabby boy who was surrendered as a stray on July 19 to Kingdom Animal Shelter. He was visited by Sandy at the Shelter and she immediately fell totally in love with him. He went home on August 24.
Here is what Sandy writes of this perfect addition to their family:
"We adopted little Mr. Flynn from the Kingdom Animal Shelter on 8/24/2022. I first met him on the website for the shelter. He immediately tugged at my heart. I made an appointment to meet him and complete the adoption application!
When I visited the shelter, I was so impressed with the facility and staff. The care of all resident cats was exceptional. Every cat felt loved and cared for. When I met Mr. Flynn in person, I knew I had to take him home to his forever family.
He has been here about two weeks and fits right in! He loves to be with people following me around as I do my household activities, sits in my lap when I am reading or rug hooking (which sometimes makes it very difficult to focus on anything other than the cat).
We have a two-year-old Golden Retriever, Ruby, who loves cats. Mr. Flynn is not so sure. He doesn’t mind being near her, just isn’t ready to play yet!
He is a wonderful addition to our family."

Katarina
Young Katarina had been a beloved pet during the pandemic. She wasn’t spayed, but lively and adventurous, and so she gave birth to several litters within two years!
By the time that Katarina and her wonderful offspring were surrendered to the Shelter, she seemed tired of being surrounded by her rambunctious youngsters. She gratefully retreated into her own private space, set her boundaries, and enjoyed affections only from her human caretakers. Her sleek beauty caught the eye of several potential adopters, but Katarina had her own opinions. She was not very interested in a young girl, who soon went home with Katarina’s son Thor instead; those two became best buddies. Month after month Katarina kept gazing out her window, quiet, friendly and a bit aloof, waiting for her turn.
Maria from Graniteville had been looking for a kitty for a while. Up to this point she had been taking care of family cats that were handed down or passed on to her. This time she wanted to pick her own best friend. She saw Katarina online and made up her mind. When Maria and her husband Jim first visited the Shelter, Katarina took one look at Maria and was in her lap in the blink of an eye. She was very affectionate with the couple, and it was obvious that the lady and the lady cat had found each other! During the week that the adoption was processed, Katarina was so excited and happy. She really seemed to know that she was going home soon.
Maria and Jim picked her up on August 17th. The next day Maria said "Katarina was shy at first but was soon completely comfortable. She is very lovable. She slept in my bed, on top of me. I am so thankful I found her."
Later, Maria spoke at length with her adoption counselor Nancy who said that Katarina was doing very well. Nancy reported: “When Katarina first went home, she stayed in the bedroom as her safe room for about two days and since then has been comfortable roaming the house. Katarina did join a young dog in the house and the dog Nala is very respectful of Katarina's space. Katarina will hiss if Nala gets too close, but they are doing fine together and hang out close by to each other.
Katarina is very, very friendly with everyone. Maria had a young grandchild visit and the child picked up Katarina who was very comfortable and sweet with the child. Katarina is very gentle and loving with Maria and more playful with her husband.
Maria said she is so happy with Katarina and feels that Katarina is very happy at her new home.

Guinness and Liam (now Sully)
Guinness and Liam were born to Ebony, daughter of Katarina, the matriarch of a dynasty of beautiful, all-black, mostly bob-tailed felines. Ebony had arrived at the Shelter heavily pregnant and still quite a kitten herself. At her foster home she gave birth under the couch to five gorgeous babies on St. Patrick's day. They all grew up to be bright and beautiful. Guinness inherited the bob-tail look of his mother-lineage. But Liam sported a real tail that seemed somehow longer and more agile than usual, as if his tail made up for all the ones that were missing from his siblings! Liam’s expressive tail was a big hit in the kindergarten, just like anything else that could be chased and pounced upon. Both boys were particularly cuddly and great favorites among their family, cats and humans alike.
At the age of 4 months, they were adopted by Lynn in Westfield, Vermont. Right from the start they were having a ball in their new home. Lynn had rescued and fostered many cats in the past and was looking forward to adopting some lap kittens, because her four older feline girls were not so interested in lap time and snuggling. Lynn and her husband live in a big house with lots of cat trees, a catio for safe outside playtime, a screened-in porch, shared by a laid-back cat family and two cat-friendly small dogs. They couldn't have found a better couple of kittens to add to their home. Lynn has given us regular updates about the boys since their adoption:
August 12 (arrival day): “Just a quick note to let you know we made it home safe and sound and the boys are settling in. They are watching the dogs walk by, and now they are laying together in the kitchen on the cat tree all content. It's gonna be fine. Liam is really a charmer and shows lots of affection already. I'm sure Guinness will be too, but right now Liam is taking the initiative.”
“They have been running through the house like they own it already and are paying less and less attention to the dogs. Liam really took an interest to our cat Ebony, and they sniffed each other out. He's a talker and a ladies’ man, I can see that already. I think he thought my Ebony looked like his mom Ebony. It's all good. The boys are playing with their new toys I got them now.”
“Guinness just ate some wet food and now they are giving themselves a bath. Liam wasn't interested in food yet but they have an eating station so he may in the night. I love them so much already. Thanks, ladies, for allowing them into my life. I can tell we are going to have a great time together. Stay tuned. I'm glad they have each other to hang with.”

August 13: “Good Saturday morning. We all made it through the night. Not much sleep because my mind was on the boys, but it was all good. They were off and on the bed, but were both on the cat tree beside the bed this morning. I think they have explored every inch of the house and are building their confidence. Guinness has eaten but Liam is not into it just yet. He is too busy checking everything out and trying to catch flies.”
August 14: “Just a quick update to let you know the boys have settled in just fine. Today they act like they have lived here all their lives and have left no stone unturned. They have watched birds on the porch and have peeked out into the outside cat area but came right back in. They zoom by the dogs like they don't even exist. They are very, very busy so I imagine their sisters find it different without them and a bit less hectic."

August 18: “Hi Ladies, just a couple pics of our lover boys and show you how well they are doing. A higher cat tree so had to stand on the chair to get the pic. They were just having a wrestling match and then gave each other a bath. They love to watch the birds from the porch. They have adjusted so well and love their doggie brothers and kitty sisters. All is well in the world. We love them more and more each.”
August 19: “The household is pretty busy while the boys are awake. They are always exploring every nook and cranny. I wish I could bottle their energy. I hope the girls will get new homes soon. Their mom, Ebony, seems like a real sweetheart. Right now, Guinness is helping me at the computer. He loves to run across my keyboard and then lay behind it, sometimes right on his back. He's quite the character ... they both are, but in a good way. He got under the blankets in bed the other night and laid down until he got too warm. I'm sure as winter arrives there will be lots more snuggling. I hope you have continued success in your adoptions. Stay well.”

August 26: “Rick and I are sitting on the swing with Guinness on our knees and he is reaching out to touch Bentley the dog, and Liam, now Sully, is on the floor. My husband couldn't ever remember the name Liam, so he wanted to rename him Sully after the pilot that landed the plane on the Hudson River that saved all those people.”
“Yes, we are all under Sully’s spell. They are both great, loving boys. Sully always gets on my lap when I work on the computer at my desk and every now and then he leans back and looks up at me, so we have to have a kiss. Guinness usually gets on my desk and lays behind the computer peeking out around trying to bat my computer mouse. They are a lot of fun and very much full of love. They run and greet my husband like puppy dogs when he gets home from work. It's all worked out so well and I hope their siblings and their mom will find their fur-ever homes soon."

September 7: "Here's Guinness hanging out in his favorite spot, right up on my shoulders. He often comes flying out of nowhere and leaps to my shoulders. He is quite the flying monkey and full of surprises. Expect the unexpected from that one.
Sully is a little more laid back and not so unpredictable. He is very affectionate, they both are, but express it differently. Sully definitely is more of a love bug and ladies man, but we don't want them to be exactly alike.
I was on the couch the other day and Bentley the dog was beside me and Sully came right up on my lap and basically slid onto Bentley's back and laid down. It was very sweet. They are doing so well and have settled in like they've lived here forever. So glad it has worked out so fabulously.
Hope all is good in your world and all the good work you do for the kitties.
Love, Rick, Lynn and the boys and the rest of our furry kids"

Magnolia
Magnolia’s story is quite a story. She lived as a stray around Domino’s Pizza in St. Johnsbury. She had several litters of kittens, beautiful kittens, who were trapped and placed in spectacular homes. But Magnolia was elusive….until one day, she just walked up to our trapper and essentially said, “Take me Home”. And so, Nancy Pellegrino did just that…and worked with her and loved her until Magnolia became the sweet kitty she is today.
This from her new parents, Diane and Jim of St. Johnsbury:
My heart is full for this beautiful stray, Magnolia..
She was an unexpected surprise, as I was just planning to foster her for a couple of weeks! Magnolia easily settled in to her new surroundings and has become a wonderful companion to our big fluffy white cat, Muezza.
Magnolia is as sweet as her name. She has become my nightly reading companion, sleeps on the end of the bed and loves to wrestle with my toes wiggling under the blanket! Magnolia loves her window, and has plenty of room to run about. She has brought great joy! She enjoys my husband's company during the day, as he works on his computer..
I need to credit Nancy Pellegrino for introducing me to this lovely girl!

Taco
Taco is a beautiful white and orange boy who came to us on June 20, with a badly broken left front leg. The Mitzvah Fund, Deb Glottman and Dr. Connie Riggs, tried valiantly to save his leg, but in the end, the bones wouldn’t fuse and his leg needed to be amputated. Taco was adopted on Aug. 2, and is enjoying the life of Riley. He gets around beautifully on his three legs, and his new mom, Stephanie, is madly in love with him. What a lucky boy!!
July 18, Stephanie writes:
Taco is doing amazing!!
I guess his big news is that I've renamed him (let's be honest, he's a #fosterfail and he's mine, mine, mine). His new name is Charlie Tres Leches. Charlie, because he's a ginger headed wizard like the Weasley's, and I think Charlie was the coolest of the Weasleys because he studied dragons. Tres Leches, because he's a milk colored tripod (also kind of in theme with Taco so he's staying true to his roots).
Charlie spent almost all of Friday afternoon curled up in a box in the back corner of my closet. He has since ventured out much more. Attached is a picture of him in his favorite chair.
The fentanyl patch came off yesterday early morning. He seems to be doing great. He does sometimes lick at the stitches, but he doesn't pull at them.
He's super chill and fitting in nicely.

Ethel and Lucy
Ethel and Lucy were first adopted from Kingdom Animal Shelter as kittens in 2016. But on July 1, 2022, they were surrendered back to the shelter because their owner could no longer care for them. Lucy is a beautiful black kitty, soulful and a little shy. Ethel is a confident and playful tiger tabby girl. During their first week at the Shelter, Lucy was home-sick and heartbroken. She kept hiding her head in a cardboard box under a blanket. But once she overcame her initial grief, she showed her affectionate nature to everybody. Ethel adapted quickly to their new situation and took advantage of the loving attentions of her caretakers right away. They are beautiful cats who had lived peaceably with dogs in their former home. We all thought that these great kitties wouldn’t have to stay at the Shelter for too long, and so it was.

On August 12, 2022, Lucy and Ethel were invited to their forever home by the Strand Family from Barnet. On September 12 their adoption counselor Nancy sent an update:
“The girls have been home for one month today. I have spoken with the family a few times, most recently today. The family feels that Ethel and Lucy transitioned into their home very smoothly and peacefully. They joined a cat friendly dog named Ginger. They are great cats. They are very happy with them, and they feel that the cats are happy as well. The girls initially started out in a safe room but quickly moved into the entire house. The girls are eating well and using the litter boxes with no issues at all. They both love being on the enclosed porch enjoying the summer weather.
Lucy is very social and enjoys cuddles with her new family. Ethel is also very social but is more playful than cuddly. In particular, the girls love a new scratching post (replacement for the living room couch) and they love the fishing rod toy. Lucy is a little shyer and tends to hide when company comes over, but she is the first to greet her family when they arrive home. Both cats respond very well to their names.
With Ginger the dog, everything is going well. The dog and cats are not best friends, yet, but they coexist very peacefully. They seem to be comfortable with each other, exploring and getting to know one another.”
Yay, Lucy and Ethel!

Lynx
Lynx had spent the summer in his room at the Shelter, looking out the window from the top of his cat tree, and taking every opportunity for lap time with his volunteers. For a young social butterfly and dedicated lap cat like Lynx this was difficult, although he had his personal team looking out for his well-being. He couldn’t roam the Shelter like other kitties because he didn’t know how to behave around felines. He would chase after all the cats and scare them. This behavior is common in cats who are separated from their mom and litter mates at a young age, and raised without feline friends.
When Lynx was adopted by Elizabeth from Newport, everybody who had rooted for this gorgeous young boy was thrilled.
After his first night in his new home Elizabeth wrote:
“Day One with Lynx has been amazing! He has been such a brave boy since he got home. He came right out of his carrier and immediately began exploring and greeting the rest of my family. We have all fallen in love with him! I’ve found him sitting on the windowsill by the couch many times. He also loves sitting at the top of the ladder and looking down on the rest of the room. The wall perches have been intriguing to him, although the bridge portions make him nervous. He has been super playful today, everyone in my family was amused with his jumping abilities haha. He spent the night at the foot of my bed and woke me up by coming and lying on top of me this morning. He’s absolutely the cutest.
I’m so happy with my decision to adopt Lynx, he’s a perfect addition to my family :)
Thank you and everyone at the shelter for everything!!
