October 2023 Adoptions

Lyna and Vlad
Back in February a double-pawed black mama cat called Addie gave birth to eight kittens and raised the lot with the help of her identical looking sister Becky until the babies were ready for foster kindergarten.
Lyna and Vlad were the last pair of siblings to be adopted. Little black Lyna was the only kitten that looked exactly like mom and auntie within a group of tiny brown and grey tigers. But in contrast to their friendly and outgoing moms and brother Vlad, Lyna was very shy since babyhood.
While the other kittens found loving homes over the course of the summer, Lyna needed some extra attention from foster mom Tori, until she became a sweet little lap cat to the people she knew well, and her gregarious brother Vlad also helped her to become brave. They grew into beautiful youngsters and were adopted on October 20th by a young couple from Waterford. Miles and Alex lived in a converted barn, a wonderfully spacious playground for energetic kittens to chase each other around.
On October 20th Miles and Alex wrote:
“So far, so good! The cats were a bit nervous when they first got home but when they were fed dinner, they came out and began to eat. They have been playful, especially Vlad. He came up on the bed that first morning. They have used the litter box and have allowed some petting.
So far, a great beginning.”
On November 11, their adoption counselor Nancy reported:
“I spoke to Miles on Monday afternoon.
Miles said that the cats are doing very well, and they are thrilled with them! They are eating well and using the litter boxes with no issues at all.
Miles and Alex had company all weekend; the kittens were the stars and enjoyed all the attention and the new friends around. The kittens are put into a smaller room when Alex and Miles are going out or when they are playing their musical instruments, but the kittens know the routine and their schedule and are doing well.
Miles said that they are playful and affectionate. Vlad is "all over them" and shy Lyna is coming more and more out of her shell. Vlad loves a fishing pole toy that Alex made for the kittens and Lyna loves the spring toys and the balls with bells in them. At times, Vlad will cuddle at night, but Lyna has not slept with the couple yet. She keeps them in eyesight, but a bit at a distance.
So overall, the kittens are doing great. Miles stated that living with them has been incredible!”

Carson and Ryker
On a rainy day in July a vet tech at the Littleton emergency vet called to say that a Good Samaritan had brought in four young grey kittens, and would KAS take them? We said yes...and foster mom Julie, who specializes in raising baby kittens, picked them up. After they were weaned off the bottle, they moved into volunteer Pat’s kitten kindergarten.
Carson, Ryker, Mason and Houde grew into a bunch of adorable, friendly, and vivacious, just really good kittens who would soon turn into wonderful pets.
The boys all had silver grey fur and some of them had tiger markings. They were very interested in making close friends with any human being around.

Carson and Ryker were adopted by Kevin and Ann in West Burke on October 24th.
The following day Kevin wrote:
“The boys have certainly not wasted any time in owning their new home. Within an hour of arriving, they began exploring the two rooms they had access to and by the end of the night they were curled up with Ann and me. Everyone is very happy. Their water bubbler was a new experience for them based on their reaction. After several apprehensive approaches they found it much more fun to splash it with their paws than drinking but soon figured that out too.
As to names, Carson will now be called Savu which is the Finnish word for smoke and given his smokey pelage it seemed fitting. (We have a strong connection to Finland.) Ryker we are calling Titanium, an ode to his coloration. Ti will be his official name in reality though. Thanks again for your support!"

Dusty
In September a gentle young tabby cat was left behind at an Air BNB. The manager took him to her home to keep him safe, called him Dusty and gave him a flea bath, which he accepted calmly. Dusty spent several days at his rescuer’s home with two children and four dogs, and he got along splendidly before moving to the Cat Shelter.
Dusty turned out to be the friendliest, most loving, and talkative boy, and so adorable with his white socks and white chest.
He was adopted by Alan and Ann from Littleton, NH on October 28th.
Adoption Counselor Nancy reported on October 30th:
“We spoke on Sunday and Dusty was investigating the entire house.
He had eaten very well, used the litter box and slept with them, that first night. Dusty met the resident dog Zoey and neither reacted at all. Alan said he was more concerned about the dog, because she is so sweet and passive, than they were about Dusty adjusting. Things are going great.”
On October 31st Nancy wrote:
“As you can probably make out, Dusty is sitting on Ann’s lap along with the dog! Alan says that he thinks that Dusty is in command, and he is very curious. Everything is going well.”
On November 4th Nancy wrote:
“Dusty has been home now for one week. As you can see in the picture, Dusty has made good friends with the resident dog, Zoe. They sleep together with their people on the bed, each night. They often sleep back-to-back.
They still put Dusty in a safe room while they are not home, but Dusty and Zoey are good with each other. Dusty is curious about everything in the house, but they are not having door dash issues. Alan said that this adoption is working out very well.”
