Our Very Senior Feline Citizen: Cosmos
-Helen Morrison
We are so very lucky to have in our Shelter midst a distinguished elderly feline gentleman, Cosmos. Cosmos is probably around 20 years old, give or take. He was gifted to us by a gentleman who no longer had the means to tend to him in terms of vet care, though he loved Cosmos dearly. Cosmos has a room of honor, Wendy’s Colony Room, where he can watch all the goings on in the Shelter. Cosmos and our Board member, Rod Lauman, have made a special bond. Cosmos loves his daily visits with Rod. Rod lies on the cot with Cosmos and they have a nice nap together. Rod gives him daily sub-q fluids, and monitors his health and spirit, sometimes giving Cos an anti-nausea med. Cosmos has liver and kidney issues…but the constant love and care that the Shelter is giving him has let him enjoy life way beyond what we expected when we first took him in.
Cosmos loves the attention, the walks around the Shelter, the good healthy food, the medical care. It is wonderful that we have been able to give him this sweet time. But he has gifted us as well, with laughter and cuddles and feline conversations, with this wise little Old Soul.
