Small Wonders
-Helen Morrison, Board President
My Mom and Dad both used to say “Will Wonders Never Cease”....when something awesome happened. Awesome didn’t necessarily mean huge, momentous, life changing. It could be something small, precious, a tiny miracle.
Wonders never do cease at the Shelter. I am continually in awe…of the kitties, of this place of love, of our incredible volunteers. And there are always instancess that make us smile, or take our breath away, or make us say a quiet, internal “wow”.

Wonders never do cease at the Shelter. I am continually in awe…of the kitties, of this place of love, of our incredible volunteers. And there are always instancess that make us smile, or take our breath away, or make us say a quiet, internal “wow”.
On January 7 of this year, one of those tiny “wow” miracles happened. Addie and Becky joined the Shelter family. They are two sisters, all black, with double paws. Both girls are incredibly friendly and sweet. The girls were “strays” and being kept outside in a crate…apparently attracting the attention of local coyotes.
We had Becky spayed, but Addie was pregnant. And so, on January 22, Dr. Melora Hunt, a long-time friend of the Shelter, agreed to take the sisters, and provide a birthing place and temporary home for the girls. And on February 7, Addie gave birth to eight tiny felines, four boys and four girls, all double pawed.

There was some concern as to how Addie’s and Becky’s relationship would be, with these new additions. Would they remain the same close sisters? But Becky immediately began helping to care for the kittens, cleaning them, helping them with their toiletries. And she let the little ones suckle…and suddenly, a tiny miracle. Becky began to also make milk for the kittens.
All has gone so well. The kittens are now seven weeks old…exploring, playing, cavorting about. Addie especially has taken a liking to Melora’s dogs. And her lop eared rabbit, Bunnacio, is fascinated. Six of the kittens have Ukrainian names, in honor of Melora’s family heritage. And one little girl is named Fiona, and one little boy is Finnegan, in honor of our Hospice kitty, Finnegan, who recently passed away (see adoption updates).
So….let me introduce you to our Full-of-Wonder little miracles, Addie and Becky’s sweet family of eight.
