Our Old Funny Fella, Sven

Picture
Probably every KAS volunteer is in love with Sven.  What an engaging, totally human oriented cat.  He cannot get enough attention from our volunteers...and they try hard to give it to him.  Sven came to us in a rather odd way.  He was found by a young couple late on a Sunday afternoon, lying inert on their lawn.  They took him in, called KAS, and made him comfortable in their bathroom until Monday morning when they could get him to the vet.  They were afraid he wouldn’t make it through the night.  But Sven is a survivor.  He is a big cat, long-legged.  But he only weighed 6 pounds.  And his blood work was all over the place, including showing pretty severe anemia.  Over the next several months, he gained 2.5 pounds and his blood work was basically normal.

Unfortunately, several weeks ago, Sven got a bad cold.  He was very very ill.  But with the help of LAVES, Western Avenue Veterinary Clinic, and Peak Veterinary Specialists in Williston, and the help of a generous donor, Sven is recovering.  He is in foster, kind of his own health rehab cabin.  With his many meds, including antivirals, antibiotics, appetite stimulants, and eye antibiotics, we have our Old Funny Fella back.  He is once again engaging and loving and can’t get enough human attention.  As the Internal Medicine doc at Peak said, when she walked in the day after he had been admitted, very sick, she didn’t know what she would find.  But there he was, up and greeting her and rubbing up against his condo door.  “It made my day!”.  We are so glad to have Sven back to his old sweet twelve year old self.

The cottage Sven is currently residing in is going to be getting too cold for him this winter, so we're looking for a quiet foster where he can enjoy a warm winter.  Please contact us at [email protected] if you're interested in fostering Sven.

A Little About Sven:
Our sweet Sven is twelve years old and one of the most companionable cats KAS has ever had.  He loves people and follows them around, gazing up lovingly at them.  He gets along beautifully with other cats.  He is just so mellow, nothing fazes him.  He was found lifeless on someone’s lawn, late on a Sunday afternoon.  They called us and kept him in their bathroom for the night until they could take him to the vet the next day.  They weren’t sure he would make it through the night, he was so immobile.  But he has come around beautifully and is ready to bring his joyful spirit into his forever home.
