Sharing A Letter From Rod Lauman to KAS Volunteers
'Twas the Night before Christmas and all through the Shelter all the creatures are stirring and they are sure hoping they will see a mouse. All the good kitties are waiting for Santa's arrival. Zander patrols the lobby listening for the tinny hoof sounds on the roof in hopes that St. Nicholas would soon be there. He looks up occasionally wondering what Santa might bring.

Stella and Sammie are all nestled snug in their cozy beds getting ready for a long Winter night's nap. Charleston and Desi have a sparkle in their eyes, knowing they may soon get a new ball or wand toy.
Moose and Louise huddle close together, keeping watch for Santa from the baskets where the gowns were kept. Louise says to Moose, stay quiet or we might scare him away!
Our new boy Miller is still checking things out, but he can tell from the others that something special is up. Nice to be safe and sound he thinks, not getting shot with buckshot but here in this nice place all safe and warm.
Our other new boy Marcus came in the shelter just earlier this Christmas Eve. Just a week or so before there was a fire in his home that scared him very much and now he needs to be here. He can sense the other cats are excited but he just thinks it's because he is new. He doesn't yet know what a magical time there will be.
When up on the roof there arose such a clatter all the kitties rose from their beds to see what was the matter. Away to the windows to see what had caused all that clatter.
And then with a twinkling Zander heard on the roof the prancing and pawing of each little hoof. He turned his head and straight away he went to the conference room where Santa was sitting and eating the cookies baked by Jennifer Gile that the volunteers had left. He called Zander over and with a Ho Ho Ho had him jump up on his lap. Zander gave him that look as he rolled over on Santa's lap. Santa scratched his belly and said "Good for you little one, you're going home soon"
He spoke not another word but then went straight to work and brought some goodies to each cat. Such wonder in their eyes they can't believe their good fortune, from being homeless and sad to getting this special visit from this wonderful man.
He spends some extra time and left an extra goodie for Marcus, he knows it's his first night at the shelter and about the fire and how he lost his home. Marcus looks up at Santa after a few pats and now feels safe at KAS.
After Santa makes his magical visit to the cats and drops off some new toys and gives them all a little pat, his sleigh and reindeer fly past the new weathervane as it turns in the night. As the sleigh begins to lift, he looks back in the window and sees Moose and Louise sitting in the sill with eyes shining wishing him a good night. They heard him exclaim as he drove out of sight Happy Christmas to all and to all a good night!!
Stella looks out the back window purring and still holding her new catnip mouse to see the sleigh riding away over Maple Grove so Santa can pay a visit all the other kids and cats in St. Jay. Come back next year Santa she says and visit me again in my new home wherever that may be.
You see, what all the kitties want the most from Santa to bring them a new place to call home. From whatever places they have been and things they have seen to a new life with a brand new caring family.
Thanks to all the KAS volunteers that help make their Christmas wishes to Santa Possible.
Happy Holidays from the Board to Everyone!
Rod
And a Happy New Year to All!!!
