When You Least Expect it
-Helen Morrison
For a year or so, Nancy Pellegrino, our trapper extraordinaire, has tended to and monitored a mama cat on Bay St. in St. Johnsbury, behind Dominos Pizza. She has trapped several litters of kittens of this mama, brought them to her house, socialized them, loved them, let them go to fosters for more home attention. They are Donatello, Domino, and Dimitri, the first litter...and then Woodstock, Snoopy, Lucy, and Peppermint Patty. All have gone to wonderful homes.
Several weeks ago, Nancy went to check on Mama cat...and instead of her hissing and running away, as usual...mama cat walked up to Nancy, let her pick her up and put her in a carrier, and take her home. I guess she had just had enough of the struggle. And perhaps, because she was pregnant, maybe she wanted to be safe and sound for her new family. On September 19, Mama cat, now named Magnolia, gave birth to four very sweet little kittens, three boys and a girl. Magnolia is the best mama and from the moment she let Nancy pick her up, she has been warm and friendly. What a wonderful surprise….her precious babies and her sweet personality…. all an unexpected gift.
